Explanation: In Hosea 8 the LORD said that the false gods of Israel would fail them "For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind" (v. 7). This chapter ties in closely with the first part of the next chapter. In the words of the Keil & Delitzsch Commentary, "The coming judgment, viz., the destruction of the kingdom of the ten tribes [principally by the Assyrians], is predicted in three strophes, containing a fresh enumeration of the sins of Israel (Hosea 8:1-7), a reference to the fall of the kingdom, which is already about to commence (Hosea 8:8-14), and a warning against false security (Hosea 9:1-9)."
