I will be adding links, resources, images, and the like, upgrading the former work-through which began with the 2013-10-12 posting which can be found, along with the full Genesis to Revelation postings, in the Archive Page. Postings will be at midnight Eastern Time, as I am able. However, no chapters will be skipped, even though a posting may be late. And all postings will be housed in the Archive Page. ] Explanation: In Jeremiah 34, the mistreatment of servants was a key issue. The word of the LORD came to Jeremiah while Nebuchadnezzar was sieging Jerusalem; through Jeremiah he told king Zedekiah that the king would be taken captive to Babylon but would die in peace and have an honorable burial (1-5). Jeremiah then delivered this message (6-7). Afterward the LORD sent another message to Zedekiah: Zedekiah had proclaimed liberty to all the Hebrew servants, but they were taken back into servitude after a period of freedom; therefore, because they polluted the LORD's name by doing this, the LORD proclaimed an ironic liberty to them; he released them to the sword, to pestilence, to famine, and to captivity (8-17). The LORD was going to bring death and disaster upon those who broke their covenant; and, to accomplish this, he was going to send the king of Babylon back to the city of Jerusalem to burn it and to make Judah a desolation (18-22). I have attempted to list conservative, scholarly resources. However, some providers use liberal or liberal-influenced commentaries such as the Cambridge Bible for Schools and Colleges (in Bible Hub). Such commentaries are undoubtedly included by the provider for the wealth of useful information and comments which they provide. By consulting several commentaries, it should be fairly easy to sort out the wheat from the chaff. If, however, you would like personal assistance, write to me at AD LIB ARTS EMAIL.
