I will be adding links, resources, images, and the like, upgrading the former work-through which began with the 2013-10-12 posting which can be found, along with the full Genesis to Revelation postings, in the Archive Page. Postings will be at midnight Eastern Time, as I am able. However, no chapters will be skipped, even though a posting may be late. And all postings will be housed in the Archive Page. ] Explanation: In Job 23 Job began his answer to Eliphaz's third accusation, stating that, if he could find God, he would find justice. Job said that his complaint was bitter and heavy. And he yearned to know where he might find God. If he could he would present his case effectively; and God would strengthen him for the purpose. And he would be delivered from God, his judge (1-7). But he searches for God forward and backward and from side to side, but he cannot find him, though he sees the work which God is doing. Nevertheless, God knows his way; and, says Job, "when he has tried me, I shall come forth as gold." He has this confidence because he has kept God's way; and he has obeyed his commandment. Indeed, Job says, "I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food." But, having this confidence in his obedience did Job no good, because God would not change his mind, and he had appointed him to affliction. Therefore, Job was troubled and afraid of God's presence God had made him soft and troubled him. This state of mind was upon Job for two reasons: on the one hand, God had not allowed him to die before dark circumstances came upon him; on the other hand, God had not delivered him from the darkness which was now upon him (8-17). I have attempted to list conservative, scholarly resources. However, some providers use liberal or liberal-influenced commentaries such as the Cambridge Bible for Schools and Colleges (in Bible Hub). Such commentaries are undoubtedly included by the provider for the wealth of useful information and comments which they provide. By consulting several commentaries, it should be fairly easy to sort out the wheat from the chaff. If, however, you would like personal assistance, write to me at AD LIB ARTS EMAIL.
