[Traditional Patriarchal Timeline. Judges. Judges Period Chronology. Kings of Judah and Israel #1. Kings of Judah and Israel #2]. Asa succeeded his father Abijah on the throne of Judah. He was obedient to the LORD; and he removed idols and idolatry from his kingdom and commanded his people to seek the LORD God of their fathers. He built fortifications; and his kingdom had rest. His building and armament programs prospered. He had an army of five hundred and eighty thousand (1-8). After ten years of peace, Zerah the Ethiopian came against him with a million man army and three hundred chariots and met him in Mareshah. Asa cried to the LORD for help; and the LORD made the Ethiopians fall before Asa. The Ethiopians retreated to Gerar but were destroyed; and Asa took much spoil from them. And he overcame many cities in the region of Gerar and took spoil from them as well. Afterward he returned to Jerusalem (9-15). [ Sermons: Steve Cole. However, some providers use liberal or liberal-influenced commentaries such as the Cambridge Bible for Schools and Colleges (in Bible Hub). Such commentaries are undoubtedly included by the provider for the wealth of useful information and comments which they provide. By consulting several commentaries, it should be fairly easy to sort out the wheat from the chaff. If, however, you would like personal assistance, write to me at AD LIB ARTS EMAIL.
