Explanation: In Psalm 110 David reveals that his son the Messiah, who is also his Lord, will rule the earth. The first painting above depicts Melchizedek, a type of Christ. The Second painting shows a triumphal entry, reminding us of the ultimate triumph of Christ the Messiah.

The Palmist (David) tells us that the LORD (Yahweh) said to his Lord (Adonai), "Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies your footstool." The Jews applied this to the Messiah. Jesus applied it to himself (Mark 12:35-37). Other NT writers applied this Psalm to Christ as well: Acts 2:34-35; Acts 7:55. 1 Corinthians 15:25. Ephesians 1:20. Colossians 3:1. Hebrews 1:13. Hebrews 5:6. Hebrews 7:17. Hebrews 8:1. Hebrews 10:12-14. 1 Peter 3:22.
The Messiah will rule out of Zion in the midst of his enemies. His people will be willing in the day of his power, in the beauty of holiness, in the morning, in youth. These descriptions are symbolic of his splendor and his vigor.
The Messiah will be a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek. The Lord will destroy kings in the day of his wrath. He will judge the heathen. He will fill the nations with dead bodies. He will wound many heads of state. He will drink of the brook in the way (i.e., he will refresh himself in the midst of his battle). Therefore he will lift up the head (i.e., he will continue the battle with his strength intact and his head held high).
THE PSALTER:
BOOK FIVE OF FIVE:
Psalms 107-150.
Psalm 110
The LORD said unto my Lord,
Sit thou at my right hand,
until I make thine enemies thy footstool.
2 The LORD shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion:
rule thou in the midst of thine enemies.
3 Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power,
in the beauties of holiness
from the womb of the morning:
thou hast the dew of thy youth.
4 The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent,
Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.
5 The Lord at thy right hand shall strike through kings
in the day of his wrath.
6 He shall judge among the heathen,
he shall fill the places with the dead bodies;
he shall wound the heads over many countries.
7 He shall drink of the brook in the way:
therefore shall he lift up the head.
* NOTE: On Opening and Closing Comments in the Psalms.
[Some commentators take the Psalm in Habakkuk 3 to be a standard model for the Psalms.
Habakkuk's Psalm begins with the name of the composer ( Habakkuk) and a musical notation (" upon Shigionoth").
It closes with a dedication or a " send to" notice (" To the chief singer on my stringed instruments").
I have arranged similar material, where it is found in the Psalter, in accord with the model in Habakkuk.]
