With Passover Approaching, Jesus Goes up to Jerusalem (1886-1894)
James Tissot (1836-1902)

Explanation: About 6 months before Jesus was crucified (at the Passsover Feast), his brothers tried to persuade him to go up to the Feast of Tabernacles and demonstrate his works. But Jesus would neither go with them nor make a public spectale of his miraculous powers. He rebuked them for their unbelief and went to the feast later. Tissot depicts this more solitary journey of Jasus as he walked apart from the crowds that had preceded him. On this Journey he sought to be housed in a Samaritan village but was refused. On this occasion his disciples, James and John, asked Jesus if he wanted them to call down fire upon the Samaritans for this insult. But he rubuked them for this attitude, told them he had come to save men not to destroy them, and took them to another village.
